About Us
Emery's Garden was founded in 1996 by Emery Rhodes. He purchased the land
from the Uyeda family who still live on Manor Way across the street. The Uyeda's
are Japanese immigrants who opened the nursery in 1963. Imagine 164th Street as
a gravel road.... The Uyeda's were great propagators of conifers. In our half
acre Japanese Garden you can see excellent examples of mature Threadbranch
Cypress, Blue Atlas Cedars and Cloud pruned pine trees (The 100 foot tall
Douglas Fir was planted long before any of us remember). There are hundreds of
examples of trees that grew on our six acres. During the seventies and eighties
the Uyeda business flourished as they installed many Japanese style landscapes
throughout the region.
Retirement for the Uyeda's brought the nursery into the 21st century. Over a
year of renovation occurred before Emery's Garden opened in the spring of 1997.
Emery's goal is to bring a diverse and wonderful selection of plant materials
to our customers.
We are committed to environmentally sound gardening practices- bringing in
plants that do well here with minimal care. Our hardgoods department is stocked
with items to ensure you make safe decisions for your family and our community.
We place a tremendous amount of time and energy into the development of our
gardens. Please take the time to wander all year 'round. These gardens are here
for your pleasure and inspiration.
Our staff is unsurpassed. We love what we do and have the skill and knowledge
to make your garden a success.
